1st house call

It is my second week at the internship and today i got to try out sales. The day before i went out with one of the guys to see how it goes and was also given a sales folder. They gave me the lead and one of the guys came out with me on the sale. I am not good at sales but this is practice for my own sake. Nothing at risk, right? Well I tried to practice the sales pitch the night before and tried not to get nervous, which didn't work. I went out to the house which was in BFE like south kendall area. The old lady was really nice and invited us in. I got nervous and forgot important parts of the pitch. I got my composure together at the end and was making progress untill we asked her about her hot water. Sucks for us that she has a gas heater and her son is in that industry so she gets it for free. So our whole game was off. We wasted time going around looking to see what we could recommend for lowering her energy bill. It was oddly high for an old lady who only has oneother person living with her. 300 bucks plus she had free gas so we were stumped at why it was so high. We offered some advice but left quickly as our sale was already done with. So my first attempt was a big fail. I will try harder next time. I plan on reading and reviewing that sales pitch till i know it by memory. Hopefully next week I can go out in the field and learn how to do some installaton which is what i really wanna learn.

The scene is set in a living room. There is a woman sitting on a couch watching television. There’s a beeping coming in as background noise and as the woman searches for the sound, she hears rustling at the front door followed by keys jingling. As she locates her phone, the source of the beeping, a young man walks into the house. He drops a bookbag onto the armchair next to the sofa after closing the front door, and takes a seat right next to her. So close in fact she has to shift to accommodate him and thus almost drops the phone she had in her hand while answering a text message.

Woman: Any particular reason you’re practically sitting on my lap, (Insert man’s name)?

Man: I’m just excited, sorry. But listen! So I’m taking this environmental awareness class right?

Woman: Yes, you were telling me that ear—

Man: (Interrupts her and continues speaking in a matter-of-fact tone) Well I’ve decided to take some more affirmative action and get a little hands-on for the class. I think it’ll help me focus in on what Mother Nature is all about.. get to know her a little better. What do you think??

Woman: (Stares at him incredulously ) And just how do you plan on developing this clearly loving relationship with your ecosystem, oh-he-who-suddenly-loves-the-planet?

Man: Okay, so it may be a little sudden, but my eyes have been opened! Earth is crying out for us, and we have to help!

Woman: Alright, save the theatrics..lay it on me. I know somehow I’m going to be affected by your new lifestyle changes. I always am. (Sighs)

Man: (Beaming proudly) Well, I was thinking we could change our water heater. There are these awesome solar powered water heaters that are definitely less harmful than that big old tank we have now!

Woman: That doesn’t sound like a very inexpensive project you want to take on there Robin Hood..

Man: That’s where you’re wrong. (Insert prices, facts, pros and a few cons for good measure if there is any at all.) So you see? This will be perfect!

Woman: (Sits pensively) I don’t know, (Insert Man’s name). You know I’m not comfortable with change..

Man: Think of how much we’ll be helping the environment! Come on, (Insert Woman’s name). We have to do our part..

Woman: Oh alright. I guess it’s time we give something back.

The man hugs her, takes the phone out of her hand, and begins dialing. Scene fades as he is calling a representative from the company asking them what they have to do to get started with one of their products.

Special thanks to the beautiful and talented ZEE for helping make this...please gimme any comments on how to change it and make it better.

Solar scams

This is a story i hear all too often now that solar panels have gained popularity. A young couple who have recently bought their own house and are very "green" and also want to save money. They contact a guy to come in and install solar panels for hot water. They sign up to get the job done but never check if he has a license or if he is even trained to do the job. They assume he knows what he is doing and hand him over a $1000 deposit. After three months of waiting the guy came and did the solar water heater. Following the installation the young couple tried to get home owners insurance. They were unable to qualify because the solar water heater did not have a permit from the county. Few people know that in order to install a solar water heater the company must first pull the permit. So now the couple could not get the roof insured and in Florida that is a major problem especially around hurricane season. Nor did they receive the rebate check from the government that he promised. Looks like they have been scammed and ripped off. This scenario seems to be happening more often and hard working people keep getting scammed and ripped off. Since the energy crisis along with our current state of economics hard working citizens are looking for a way to save the earth and save their hard earned money. The truth of these matters is that you can get a nice rebate check from the government, but only if you use a licensed professional. Fl Green Energy is one of the few and new South Florida companies who are working hard to battle against scams by hiring trained professionals to do all the work and guaranteeing that you get your government rebate check. Also they are able to finance the whole thing so you wouldn't have to give any money down and actually make no payments or interest for a year. Check out their website and sign up for a free energy survey and let them show you how a real company does it.

1st day of training

Today was my first day of training at FL Green Energy. A solar panel company up in Aventura. I met the owner, who also owns pizza patron. I thought that was cool. I got my own email from them along with some engineering specs of some really cool and new equipment they have. Apparently they have a panel with mirco inverters that can work even if one of the panels is covered in shade. Amazing. I also got the sales script and am working on a video for their website (http://fl-energy.com). I have been learning alot about this industry just by talking to them and reading articles. Soon I hope to get out in the field and learn how to sell this amazing product and how to install them. Ill be back in the office on friday where i will start the script for the video. More updates then.

Solar Thermal (solar hot water)

We all need hot water to live. To take a shower, wash dishes, wash clothes, and maybe even heat the pool. For years it seems like the only way to get hot water is by getting a storage tank and paying for the electricity to heat it up. Now there comes solar thermal which is the fancy way of saying free hot water.

Why?

An investment in a solar water heater comes with a variety of benefits. By installing a solar water heater you can reduce the environmental impact of a conventional water heater by minimizing the cost of electricity or the amount of fossil fuels used. Efficiency is also a benefit associated with investing in a Solar Water Heater with “a typical household [meeting] 50 to 80 percent of their hot water needs.” Little to no maintenance is what consumers can expect after installation of a solar water heater.

Currently, the US Government is offering a wide number of incentives and rebates to many states for individuals looking to become more energy efficient or implement renewable energy within their household or business. With the amount of money saved on your average utility costs, as well as the rebates offered by your state, an average investor can expect to see a payback of their Solar Water Heater installation within a few years.

How it works....

The simple way of saying it is that the system takes in cold water heats it up and sends it back into the tank. Also known as Open Loop System. In this system, water that will be used throughout your home or business is directly heated by running within the copper pipes located within the solar collector.FL Green Energy offers clients installation of a Direct Solar Water Heater System.

And my Pool?
For many pool-owners, extending the life of your pool throughout the seasons usually comes at a steep price, with energy prices increasing on yearly basis. While there are other ways to increase the energy efficiency of your pool, such as investing in pool covers, installing a solar water heater would bring about a fast turnaround on your investment and help you save a significant amount of money in the long run.

Now is the perfect time to start investing for the future and whatever crisis might be over the horizon. Start by visiting http://fl-energy.com/ and getting an energy survey today.

About me

Hello Internet

My name is Jason and this is my blog. I just wanted to have this first blog to tell you guys who I am and what I'm doing. I am currently an undergrad at FIU in Miami,FL and I am studying civil engineering. I am very interested in the green movement that has been getting more and more popular especially since the last presidential election. It seems that all you hear about now is energy rebates and tax credits and saving the planet. All I can say is FINALLY! I feel this is the perfect time to get into the industry that will ultimately become the future. So far I have been active in my journey to learn everything there is to learn from this new "green movement". I am an active member of Emerging Green Builders at my school. We are restoring our solar house while beautifying the park next to it. I also just came back from a trip to New Orleans where I helped build one of the country's first green community as well as helping the city re grow to its former glory. Soon I will also be a LEED AP.

Now that summer is here I am interning at a large solar panel company in Miami. http://www.fl-energy.com/ FL Green Energy, a Florida based energy efficiency company, is offering solutions to the rising utility costs facing home and business owners today. In this blog I will tell you guys about my internship and my learning experiences. This is my first blog please be gentle. On Wednesday I start my first day of training and hopefully will learn alot.
